Walking Day 12 -Santillana del Mar to Comillas

Walking Day 12 - Santillana del Mar to Comillas - 23.9k - 483m ascent

Santillana was still asleep as we left the town at 0800.  So no cafe con leche for sometime.  We headed out of this classic hold Spanish village following a garbage truck as wide as the narrow road w no way to pass.  At least they were quick.
Today's walk was all rolling countryside.  Nothing too steep, but a lot of ups and downs easily pushing us over 1300 ft in total elevation gain.

We found our morning coffee some 8k into the walk and lunched in Cobreces where we met a New Zealand couple who spend the last 17 years sailing their Peterson 44 half way around the world before shipping it home from the Med.  We hope to see them again and get more of the story.  They did not recall hearing of our son's yacht  "Wildflower" but some of the dates and places they spoke of seem to fit.

Most of the walk was on country road, but some on highway with pedestrian lane and some rocky path.  The day was overcast and always threatening rain, but did not until evening.  JoLinda said there was lightening and thunder, but I heard none.

The Albergue in Comillas is a converted jail w 20 beds that opened at 4PM.  When we arrived @ 2 PM there were 18 backpacks lined up, meaning we would get no bunk pick and we knew more walkers were enroute.  So we found a hotel that for 10€ did our laundry, Yeah!  Since both of us our experiencing feet and leg issues we did little GM of this seaport resort town.
